New Appointments Add to Peckham Martin Lawyers’ Service to Houston Bar and State Bar of Texas

We are pleased to announce that the Houston Bar Association has selected Charles H. Peckham to serve on two of its committees.

The Houston Bar Association is a nonprofit professional body for attorneys with almost 11,500 members, providing education, professional development, and service programs for the legal profession and the population. The Association was recently recognized by the State Bar of Texas with the Award of Merit for exceptional overall programming and projects by a bar association.

Charles recently began service on the Fee Dispute Committee, which arbitrates disputes between attorneys and clients involving legal fees, and the Speakers’ Bureau Committee. The Speakers’ Bureau Committee is responsible for maintaining a comprehensive list of members of the HBA who are willing to give talks in schools, service clubs and other civic organizations. This committee is also responsible for recruiting lawyers to “teach” at two sessions of the People’s Law School, an effort that the HBA co-sponsors annually with the University of Houston.

These new appointments add to the work that Charles and partner Mary A. Martin already perform for the State Bar of Texas. The Texas Bar is responsible for assisting the Texas Supreme Court in overseeing all attorneys licensed to practice law in Texas. It is also the fifth largest organization of lawyers in the United States.

Mary A. Martin is an elected Director of the State Bar of Texas, and Charles is a member of the Jury Charge Committee for Business, Consumer, Insurance and Employment Law. Both are serving three-year terms in their respective positions.

Peckham Martin, PLLC continues to give back to the legal community and the Houston community through volunteer efforts.
